Panic with a purpose

Ethan started weekly swim lessons last week. At one point during the lesson he jumped in the water and began flailing his arms and legs wildly, trying to keep himself afloat. The instructor said to him, "Don't panic, it just makes you sink!" Apparently he listens.

We finally got our own little inflatable pool up a few days ago much to Ethan's great delight. In yesterday's sticky, suffocating heat, I sat nearby as he kicked and splashed, glad for every drop that came my way.

Amidst his incessant diving for pool toys, Ethan called out to me, "Hey! If I want to go under a little faster, I just panic and then I can sink!" He proceeded to demonstrate with a frenzy of movement.

Now if only I can harness my own anxiety like that.

Paige is jealous, she is still learning how to float, she is not so relaxed.

Definitely his father's son...little danger boy...

Oh yeah, and Paige was very worried that he would get zapped today during his lesson because of the possible thunderstorms. I told her I think his lesson is at an indoor pool :)

Heidi-
Maybe they have tricked us this year and VBS is really a week-long safety course...The Quest for Truth moves indoors to stay out of the thunderstorm.

controlled panic. You ought to patent that quick :-)

And he's definitely his Uncle Andrew's nephew: the child the sun forgot. Let's hear it for snowy whiteness! ( Um, but not in a white supremacist kind of way...)

Oh- and one more thing- You just need to teach him this mantra from our childhood: "faster, body, faster..."
