Sweet and sour

It may not make most people salivate, but when I saw the fresh rhubarb in the produce section last week, placed strategically next to the strawberries, I had to snatch some.

This unappealing, humble plant which the lady at the checkout struggled to identify (is this rhubarb or rutabaga?) makes me both nostalgic for childhood summers and a little hungry.

I had in mind a recent crisp recipe I'd seen at one of my favorite food blogs. Her recipes do not disappoint and I'd definitely recommend this one after following it to the letter. Ok, I should have cut the rhubarb a little smaller, some of the pieces were a little crunchy which was not good.

Mmmm.....a great way to satisfy a craving for something tart.

Strawberry rhubarb is one of my all time favorite pies. I love the combo. Your crisp looks super yummy. Ahhh...the joys of summer are upon us!

Remind me to give Ethan a Drew a copy of the song "Rhubarb Pie" if they don't already have it.

I'm afraid I do not yearn for those days of yesteryear when rhubard the cursed plant was aplenty...bring on the chocolate...

Ha, ha! You should bake a rutabaga pie for the checkout-lady.

Oh, rhubarb, how I love thee! I have some sitting in my fridge right now, waiting to be turned into jam and/or ice cream sauce. Yay!

ryc- how long was Keith in the survey business? I'm glad for his sake that he is in a line of work that he likes better :-)

Isn't rhubarb poisonous? For some reason I thought it was. I obviously must be thinking of something else :-)

DJ-
He worked for Earl a number of summers and during his college years...not sure how many exactly.

Also, I think the rhubarb leaves are poisonous so that's prob. what you're thinking of.
