Recycled Knits

Ok, so here's an example of the ultimate time-consuming, money saving craft endeavor, the lengths of which I do not normally go to but I wanted to try. It started with the sweater which I picked up at Salvation Army a few months ago for 2 or 3 dollars.

Then, with the help of the internet, I found a tutorial which showed me how to unravel the sweater. This part probably took about as long as the knitting itself and I only completed one arm so far. Working with this yarn gave me cravings for Ramen noodles...

The completed baby booties are from the book, "Simple Knits for Cherished Babies", by Erika Knight and are pretty easy although I managed to make one a little bigger than the other.

I also used up my yarn from the duck sweater to complete Baby beanie and more booties from the same book. These are alarmingly small though--I hate to bother with gauge and all that boring stuff--although I did for the sweater. Hopefully they will fit a baby for more than one day.

Hurray for projects. They keep us sane...
At least the moths can't eat the booties.
I remember Lexie had some mohair booties,
that were a gift, and the moths had a feast:)

You unraveling a sweater to make something else makes me think of novels I've read of the thriftiness of women during the depression or world war II. Was it worth it--to unravel rather than buy new?
