On the other hand...

Well, it looks like Drew has some sort of gastric reflux problem although the doctors are still trying to decide. He has had many of the classic symptoms since about 2 weeks old and they have escalated in the last few days. He cries much of the time he is awake and seems in pain. He cries when I lift him up to burp him, he coughs, gags and chokes after being fed, to the point of not breathing for several seconds. He wakes up screaming in pain and only sleeps for brief periods during the day and no longer than 3 hours at night. And suchlike...

So, after trying one medication for several days which seemed to do nothing, our pediatrician prescribed Zantac which is stronger and is supposed to relieve the pain of heartburn. I feel awful putting him on medicine at such a tender age but it is hard to see him in constant pain and we are all worn down at this point. We started last night and hopefully will see a change soon. Unfortunately, the stuff is pretty strong tasting and he chokes most of it up.

In addition to all this, I somehow managed to catch a 24 hour flu-bug type thing. I think it was from some of the other bloggers I read...(Thanks Mary, Craig and Derrick!) It came on so suddenly, a couple nights ago, that I thought maybe it was food poisioning or some strange germ I picked up from touching the merchandise at Salvation Army. Who knows. It was miserable (have you ever had vomit come out of your nose? Ok, TMI, I know. Right Frank?), but at least it was brief.

And the screams commence...

Oh, I'm SO sorry. You poor thing. And Drew looks so pitiful. Still really cute...but pitiful. Wish I was there to help...

Wow, Liane, this sounds really rough! Hope relief comes soon for you all! How does a little squirt get gastric reflux?

I like the new "and beyond" motto up top :)

He is even adorable when crying! Of course, I get the silenced version, which helps. So sorry things are rough. All of you are in our prayers.
See you Saturday! Remember...all adults attending are required to appear in costume! Don't worry Keith, Andy has an extra.

Thanks everyone...things are a little better.
Lori--there may be different causes but from what I've read, infants get reflux because of an underdeveloped digestive tract.
Thanks Ryu--I'm working on some changes...slowly.
