Charlotte's babies

Last night, at dinner, I noticed there was something on Keith's back. He had been outside earlier so I figured it was some plant type thing until I looked closer and lo, a million tiny spiders! Not a million really, but far, far too many for my liking. I begged him to quickly take his leave of us.
Outside, I brushed off his back and then we found where they had originated on the wall next to the door. There were many more. Keith, taking no chances, torched them with some kind of fiery implement. They were so tiny it was hard to know if we really got them all, inside and out and we've all been feeling kind of creepy crawlyish since then. And this morning, I found a few more outside.

Ethan tried his hand at destroying them with a stick and I did not stop him. Even if I heard a faint, "Salutations!", I wouldn't have spared these creatures.

Even if you heard a faint "Salutations!"? Poor children of Charlotte!

The "salutations" line made all of us laugh really hard! And I don't think any of us blame you for wanting them all dead; I certainly don't. Nevertheless, "if it weren't for spiders, bugs would destroy the earth. Spiders are really VERY useful."

The part that really made me laugh was when Keith "took no chances" and pulled out the flame thrower to annihilate the vermin. HA! WHY am i NOT SURPRISED? Okay- so maybe it wasn't a flame thrower...but that's what I envisioned...

This whole story was hysterical . . . from the salutations to the torching. LOL! I'm visiting from over at Claire's!

I love spiders but hate them at the same time. I'm fascinated by them, but because we have black widows in SoCal, I'm always afraid that our cats are going to find one and "play" with it, and end up dead.

Excellent! We just finished reading Charlotte's Web out loud together the day before yesterday, and the boys were enthralled. I think I will not share this story with them at the moment...
