Good fences make good neighbors?

When Keith came inside last evening, foaming at the mouth with news of the "most embarrassing thing" that just happened in the backyard, I rolled my eyes a little, I admit. But I shouldn't have...

Our backyard is almost completely fenced in, most of it in tall, wood fencing. Keith had taken Drew outside to give us all a break from his rather frequent fussing (Drew's). Unbeknownst to me, Keith had taken him out in his bouncy seat and set him down in the grass on one end of the lawn. Keith went to the other end of the lawn, to do who knows what.

He said that he heard Drew "making noises" (hmm, maybe wondering who had deserted him in the wilderness!), so Keith began gesturing in order to get Drew's attention and reassure him. He waved his arm wildly above his head and said loudly, "Hey baby!". At the very same moment, he happened to look up over the fence, directly behind Drew and saw the neighbor lady who is in her 50's and is a friendly sort, standing on her back step, waving at her army of dogs, saying, "Hi babies!"

And of course, at the same moment he was waving, she looked over and saw him looking at her. The height of the fence made it impossible for her to see Drew. The only thing visible to her was Keith waving in her direction, saying "Hey baby!"

As Keith is often known to say, "What are the chances!?"

What a relief! I nearly called the police. The sun must have been in your eyes as well because it sure looked like you were winking at me too?

What ARE the chances? Good thing he wasn't gesturing and letting out catcalls in the other direction to your used-to-be neighbors or he would really be finding hisself in some serious T-R-O-U-B-L-E!

Haha! Wonder what she thinks of it all.

And I didn't know Keith got embarrassed! I didn't think he was the type. But then, nor did I think he was the type to wave and call affectionately to neighbor ladies.

Go, Keith. Does he ever sing his old song, "I don't love my baby no more, 'cause she splattered all over the floor?" I remember being properly scandalized when Kerri shared that with us girls in junior high.

A belated happy birthday to you, dear Luane.
