Miracles and fairy tales

Drew slept through the night last night for the first time!! Whoohoo...well, from 11ish to 6:30. He cried once but was easily pacified with....a pacifier. It's about time too, since tommorow he is 6 months old! May the bliss continue...

Also, partly inspired by this project, Ethan and I made our own "world in a box". After seeing the example with Little Red Riding Hood in it, Ethan wanted to make one like that. I realized that we have never read him this classic and don't even own a copy! So, I looked it up online and found a site which, except for the ads, resembled a book in some ways. There were illustrations and you clicked through each page one by one. The fun part about this story is that you never quite know what the ending will be because of all the different versions.

So, when the wolf gobbled up the grandmother, I figured, ah, this is old school. This wolf will come to a violent end. Not so. After little Red scampered off to find the famous "woodsman", the wolf was cornered and SPIT OUT the grandmother, whole but "frazzled".
The story comes to it's logical and PETA-approved conclusion:

"The woodsman knocked out the wolf and carried him deep into the forest where he wouldn't bother people any longer.

Little Red Riding Hood and her Grandmother had a nice lunch and a long chat."

I love it.

It's a little hard to see, but here's our "world in a box" with a superhero thrown in for good measure:

Congratulations on Drew's achievement! I'm very happy for you!

Frazzled? I guess I would be too if a wolf ate me up.

I trust you enlightened Ethan as to the TRUE outcome of the story- that the wolf was brutally and justly slain.

Hip hip hurray for Drew & u! I think that's about when A. and L. first slept through too. Happy day. Love the world in a box. Did you cut out stuff you downloaded for it? Like the new pic of Ethan on top of your blog! I was just looking at my scrpbk of your visit here yesterday. Never run across that ending of Red riding hood:) Lexie has heard it so many times I think she's burned out on it. A well loved favorite in our house....especially the bad wolf.
