Bend it like Ethan

Today was Ethan's second soccer game with his team, the Red Hots. He was rarin' to go from the beginning and did very well. Keith and I cheered with delight as he scored one goal and another...and another...until our cheers began to turn to cringes as he managed to monopolize the ball more and more. He scored seven of the team's eight goals and Keith managed to catch them all on tape.

One of Ethan's greatest assets was the opposing team. They would step aside and watch him pass by. The goalie made a few good saves but more often was seen picking grass or just watching the ball with curiousity and mild interest as it rolled up to and past him. One of Ethan's opponents looks like he is escorting him all the way up the field and into the goal at one point. I laugh every time I watch that part.

Keith just had a little talk with Ethan and suggested that possibly he could let other members of his team take some shots in tommorow's game. Ethan said, "Why would I do that? Then I would only have six goals instead of seven."

Watch some highlights of the game (Ethan is number 8)

Evan and I are sitting here at the computer laughing our heads off and marveling at Ethan's athletic prowess. Evan commented that he looks just like Keith on the soccer field. His body just does what it's supposed to do. Loved the musical accompaniment.

Oh my word! Too funny! I loved the whole thing- including the encouraging shouts and advice from the audience, "Kick the ball!"

That kid's got some mad skills (with the right priorities, obviously)! I'm pretty sure he could crush me in soccer at this point.

My mom and I laughed all the way through... I loved the spacey goalie.

Like father like son. I never saw somebody like Keith that was awesome at everysport and he didn't even seem to care. Except about soccer. :)

btw that was the same strategy we used when the bible school soccer team played a small college team in Manchester. With similair results too. We won and Keith scored all the goals.

I can't stop watching this! And I can't stop laughing!

WOW! He's amazing! Great video!

I bet Keith didn't dance as much on the field when he played though...

Go Ethan!

I remember that Bible School game as well. I played defense, and I remember feeling distinctly relieved whenever Keith had possession of the ball. The vast majority of the rest of the team was running around thinking thoughts like "Must kick the ball as hard as I can. Maybe Keith can get it."

I think I had a nice collection of grass by the time the game was over..

that was a great video clip, brings back many memories of my soccer playing days when mom used to encourage me to "be aggresive," kind of the opposite of what ethan needs. I remember being highly praised by mom if i succeeded in tripping and hurting any boys during the game. Sometimes i would even be rewarded with a donut if i brought down enough of the opposite gender. it was upsetting when i had to play on my first all girls team.

The Joneses thoroughly enjoyed the soccer clip. (Your clips take a long time for me to download, so it's a treat for A&S when they get to "watch Ethan and Drew.") Darren remarked that, yup, it was just like Bible School, where you made sure Keith got the ball and then -- what do you know? -- you scored!

The Indiana Jones theme just about put me on the floor.

Would everybody stop praising up Keith already! GOSH! It's all about Ethan, not all about stinkin' Keith the HasBeen.

So, how did the soccer game the next day go? Don't keep us in suspense like that.

Rhoda--
Sunday's game wasn't quite the same thrill. They played a much better team and Ethan only scored 2 of 3 goals for his team-- the other team scored 4.
I found myself feeling a little nervous at the start of the second game with the expectations from the day before.
