This is going too far

We usually let Ethan pick out his clothes and dress himself although he often needs some extra help on school days. This morning when Keith went into his room to help him, Ethan protested loudly, begging Keith to leave, saying, "I have secrets!"

A few minutes later, proudly dressed in a strange combination of loud, clashing colors and prints, Ethan presented himself for my viewing pleasure. The worst part was that he was wearing two layers of shirts, the bottom one easily visible through the v-neck opening of the top. Besides the fact that today is supposed to be fairly mild and he would end up overheating, it looked pretty awful. I also noticed that his pants looked way too tight.

As soon as Ethan could sense my displeasure, he began mounting his defense. "I'm Superboy and I have to wear an extra shirt so that when I hear police sirens, I can run outside and help!" I told him that he could wear an extra shirt but it would have to be a different one. Pants too.

As I searched through his clothes for the right combination, I heard him exclaim to Keith, "When I come home and tell you about the crime I did at school, you will give me a big surprise!"

As he reluctantly undressed, I found that not only was he wearing that extra shirt, he was also wearing a pair of shorts and TWO pairs of underwear under his pants. As I tried to reason with Ethan that he only needed to wear one pair of underwear because nobody ever sees those anyway, my mind flew out the window and sat up in a tree.

Hilarious. I wish you had a photo to show the whole outfit that he came out in. I love seeing kids at the grocery store or wherever in their plaid pants, polka dot shirts, mismatched socks and shoes and know that that parent just decided to pick their battles that day :)

I second that A photo is needed here :-)

Sounds like an interesting lad, methinks he has a fitting name :-)

A surprise for your crime? Oh, you'll get a surprise alright.

That is too funny! Yes- the crime fighter's clothes are of paramount importance! Does he often react to police sirens this way? What an oddly helpful child. It would seem that he has the makings of a hero...

Hey, you never know when a spare pair of underpants will come in handy for a superhero!

what IS it with kids minds and clothing? They just seem to think completely differently about them than adults :-)

Wow, and I thought Addie's outfits were bad... and at least her reasoning goes along the lines of, "But it's spring so I can wear shorts even if there's ice outside!" The Brain of Ethan is an intriguing place.

Sorry to hear about Drew's seizure. It's about time y'all got a little break in the sickness department.
